Poor posture can lead to discomfort, reduced mobility, and long-term health problems. At Outlaw Athlete Therapy, we offer specialised services to help you understand and address your postural issues, working towards improved alignment and comfort.

Understanding Postural Issues

Postural issues occur when your body's alignment deviates from its ideal position. This can put unnecessary stress on muscles, joints, and ligaments.

Common postural problems we see include:
- Forward head posture
- Rounded shoulders
- Anterior pelvic tilt
- Sway back
- Flat back

What Can Cause Postural Issues?

We often see postural issues resulting from:

1. Prolonged sitting, especially with poor ergonomics
2. Muscle imbalances or weakness
3. Habitual poor positioning
4. Carrying heavy bags on one shoulder
5. Wearing unsupportive footwear

Honestly though it can be for a whole host of reasons and lifestyle , health factors. Outlaw's own Paula has postural issues from pregnancy and from working at desk being hunched over a laptop all day.  Paula's posture actually improved when she began training in powerlifting especially consistently. not that we would prescribe you powerlifting (unless that's what you enjoy or want!). We do however use corrective exercise and exercise rehab as one of our approaches or used in combination with one of our therapies to help you out with postural problems.

Signs of Postural Problems

Couple of things to keep an eye out for:

- Persistent neck, shoulder, or back pain
- Rounded shoulders or a hunched appearance
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Difficulty standing or sitting straight

At Outlaw, we'll conduct an in depth postural assessment, examining your alignment and identifying areas of concern. We will also take into account your lifestyle, past injuries/pain and your goals to make sure it's personalised to you.

Working Towards Better Posture

Maintaining good posture is an ongoing process. Here are just a couple of tips:

1. Set up an ergonomic workstation
2. Take regular breaks from sitting to stand and stretch , really move about and change positions when sitting for long periods of time at a desk etc..
3. Strengthen core and back muscles
4. Be mindful of your posture during daily activities
5. Wear supportive, comfortable shoes

Our Gym-Based Rehabilitation service can help you implement these tips effectively and safely.
